How often should I tune my piano?

“How often should I tune my piano? ” Contrary to popular opinion, the reason that pianos go out of tune isn’t necessarily because they are played too much, but because of how humidity affects the piano’s soundboard. Most piano technicians recommend having pianos tuned twice a year following seasonal changes in humidity, but if you are in an environment where the humidity changes often (such as on a concert stage under hot stage lights), then you may need to have your piano tuned more often.

In this video, Cunningham Piano Company co-owner Rich Galassini explains how humidity affects the piano soundboard and pitch, which in turn will help to determine how often to have your piano tuned.
