Kat Bowman (MM) - Director of Cunningham Music School
Kat Bowman is a collaborative pianist and vocal specialist who performs and teaches in the greater Philadelphia area. She has been a teacher with the Cunningham Music School since its inception in 2017, and is delighted to now be the School’s Director. Kat is a dedicated educator, and has taught hundreds of private students during her years as a music teacher.
Kat received her bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the University of Maryland in 2005, and her master’s degree in opera coaching from Temple University in 2015, where she studied under Lambert Orkis, pianist for the National Symphony Orchestra. Upon graduation, Kat was the adjunct opera professor for the voice department at University of the Arts in downtown Philadelphia, where she was a vocal coach and staff accompanist as well. Kat has also served as a jury and audition accompanist for Temple, Drexel, and Eastern Universities.
Kat is the Music Director at St. Peter’s Pikeland UCC in Chester Springs, where she heads the music department, including the volunteer choir and the church band. Thanks to the beautiful Cunningham baby grand piano that the church acquired in 2016, Kat was able to found the St. Peter’s Pikeland Concert Series, where she regularly collaborates with a variety of professional instrumental and vocal soloists. She is also an active recitalist who has most recently performed in concerts at Glen Foerd, Mount Saint Mary’s University, and the Frederick Arts Council in Maryland.
Kat offers piano and voice instruction in all genres of music, specializing in beginning jazz and musical theater. She is able to combine her classical training with her experience in vocal jazz accompaniment to give students an approach to ear training and improvisation. Flexible in her teaching style, Kat always relishes the challenge of finding the best way to bring understanding of music to her students. She is passionate about passing on the gift of music to future generations.
Kat offers instruction in Piano, Pipe Organ, Music Theory, and Vocal Coaching of all ages and levels of experience. Voice instruction is available for beginning to intermediate students.
