Torakuzu Yamaha

Torakuzu Yamaha began his company by building reed organs in 1887. By the year 1900, his small company was building upright pianos and their first grand piano was built in 1902.

Today, one out of every 4 musical instruments in the world is made by Yamaha. The company constantly reinvests in research and development. As a result, Yamaha boasts more innovations and piano related patents in the past thirty years than any other music company. One of the most notable innovations in 1983 was the Clavinova, Yamaha’s premiere digital piano that won a spot on Time Magazine’s “50 Most Influential Gadgets of All Time".

Yamaha’s pianos have been more often chosen by universities and conservatories than any other brand and they are famous for their consistency and durability.

From inventions like the Hybrid piano and the Disklavier, to the quality of their digital pianos in the Clavinova line, Yamaha is also the unquestioned leader in technology and innovation.
