One of Philadelphia’s best kept secrets is the free Cunningham Piano factory tour at our restoration facilities in Germantown. This is a great way to go behind the scenes of Philadelphia’s oldest and most respected piano factory and discover all the complex parts and craftsmanship that go into a piano. We recently hosted a group of 6th graders from Germantown Friends school. Tim Oliver, one of the co-owners of Cunningham Piano Company, led the tour and showed the students a variety of pianos in different states of restoration and assembly, from soundboard construction, to cast iron frame removal, keyboard action work, our custom soundboard press, and our refinishing department. As a result, the students gained a better understanding not only of the high level of craftsmanship, but also the physics of piano acoustics. If you’d like to take a tour of the Cunningham Piano Company’s restoration facility, get in touch with us through our website at CunninghamPiano.com/Visit and select the "Factory Tour" option.
