Internationally renowned jazz tenor saxophonist GRANT STEWART leads his N.Y. quartet for our series' fourth show on Sunday afternoon, October 30th at the Cunningham Piano store in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Canadian native Stewart's distinguished three decade professional career includes multiple awards won on sax from Downbeat Magazine, and worldwide performance & recorded work with a host of revered jazz elites at top clubs, colleges and festivals. Vocalists Etta Jones & Jon Hendricks are among them, as are horn players Clark Terry, Al Grey, Curtis Fuller & drummer Jimmy Cobb. His performance & recorded work continues with many well-known, contemporary jazz artists. Among them are Eric Alexander, Bill Charlap, Joe Magnarelli, Russell Malone & Harry Connick, Jr. His credits also include being one of the first jazz artists to perform at the historic Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia.
"Downbeat" & "Jazzman" magazines named Stewart one of the jazz world's premier saxophonists. Labeled "...a veritable tenor colossus..." in "Jazzman," with a sound reminiscent of Dexter Gordon & Sonny Rollins, a critique in "The Villager" expressed this about his playing: "his huge sound, creativity and beautiful melodic sense combine to easily place him among the finest saxophonists on the scene today."
