Kat Bowman is an experienced piano teacher who enjoys teaching students of all abilities and ages. Kat received her bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the University of Maryland, and began teaching in the Washington DC area immediately following graduation. She quickly discovered a passion for teaching both her younger students and the adults who required a different approach. After teaching in Maryland and Virginia, she moved to Colorado for a few years and taught through two different music schools during her time there. Upon returning to Philadelphia, she worked with Delaware Valley Friends School, which specializes in dyslexia and other learning differences. Her longtime association and employment at the school has given her a unique perspective on teaching music, and has enabled her to take on students with reading difficulties. Kat attended Temple University and received her graduate degree in collaborative piano, with a concentration in opera coaching. The master’s program afforded her the opportunity to expand her teaching skills, coaching college and graduate students as part of her requirements. Currently, she is teaching and accompanying at University of the Arts in downtown Philadelphia, where she coaches opera and oratorio repertoire and is on staff as a coach and pianist. Kat is the music director and organist at St. Peter’s Pikeland UCC in Chester Springs, and leads the senior choir. A couple of her choir members are her private students as well, both in piano and voice. Kat is also an accompanist and theater coach in the Lower Merion district, and she is the musical director for the spring musical at Harriton High School. Her love of music and teaching make her an enthusiastic and caring instructor who believes in a multi-sensory approach to learning piano.
