We're delighted to celebrate the acquisition of a brand new Yamaha C3X 6'1" grand piano for E.T. Richardson Middle School! Thanks to the determination and creativity of Kathleen Boyer, Instrumental Music Teacher for E.T. Richardson Middle School and Music Curriculum Coordinator for Springfield School District, she was able to bridge the funding gap between the resources from her school district with those of the Springfield Area Educational Foundation (SAEF), an organization committed to supporting the arts, academics, and athletics in the district, of which she has served as a board member. Together with several fund-raising activities, including performances by the Philadelphia Boys Choir. "We use the grand piano all the time for our choral concerts," Kathleen noted. When the music teachers noticed that their previous piano was deteriorating, they approached Cunningham Piano and worked together with their Director of Institutional Solutions to find the best instrument suited for the size of their auditorium. "The arts are incredibly important for our children," says Susan Descano, retired Springfield High School Choral Director and volunteer accompanist for E.T. Richardson Middle School's choral program. "It gives them a chance to express themselves, and for many students this is the place where they can shine and
focus in their life." "We were absolutely thrilled the day our grand piano was delivered!" remarked Kathleen. "I brought all of my instrumental classes over to see that piano, just to show them, 'this is the instrument that we will have to use throughout our school', in concerts, in solos with piano accompaniment, or many times we can have children playing the piano and enjoying the sound that an instrument like this is going to give to us." Getting a grand piano for any school can be a challenge. Recognizing this, Cunningham Piano Co. is dedicated to helping educators provide their students with the best musical education, and can assist with providing creative fundraising solutions coupled with special institutional discounts to ensure that every child has the opportunity to benefit from the arts.
