Bösendorfer's resonance philosophy is similar to a violin, in that the entire piano structure is intended to be a part of the vibratory process, which is a guarantee for an almost limitless wealth of tonal colors and the legendary, singing and brilliant Bösendorfer timbre. Bösendorfer is the ONLY manufacturer that follows this most demanding manufacturing process. This complex and elaborate construction principle is not only an expression of the Viennese piano building tradition, but is also the sound of Vienna itself. The entire piano - not just the soundboard - supports the sound formation process and the sound projection. A multitude of composers that define the classical genre, such as Chopin, Strauss, Liszt, Czerny, Mahler, and Wagner all owned, composed on, and championed the Bösendorfer over all others. Modern musicians such as Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, and Quincy Jones all heard the same quality and purchased this magnificent piano for themselves. With only a few hundred pianos produced a year using mostly Alpine Spruce (each piano taking five years to make) Bösendorfer is truly a piano that transcends a mere musical instrument and is, in itself, a work of art.
The highest quality spruce resonance wood from Europe, which is carefully dried naturally, is the basis for the outer box wall. The resonant spruce wood is provided with targeted incisions to allow adjustment to the silhouette. Then all cuts are again lined with spruce wood. As soon as the instrument vibrates, the integrated solid spruce wood elements have an acoustically active effect and together form the resonance box, which gives the instrument a special ability to project. This design is a unique Bösendorfer feature.
